First night, first day of work
I thought it would be a very peaceful night because everything seems to be settle before I started work. Well, we completed our routines at 2315hrs subsequently was able to sit down and rest. Throughout the night, we heard there were many admissions within the ward. The registrar on call is kind of "well known" to fill up every bed available. We thought we wouldnt be admitting after one HD lodger at 0445hrs as we left a last bed however we were wrong. Just when we settled the first lodger, we received another call at 0600hrs to accept a GENERAL WARD conversion case!!!!! Every single bed was filled up without even leaving one in the ICU for emergency collapsed case!!!!!!!!!!!!
After reviewing the first lodger, the orders were to stop his IV and send him out of the ICU! *PISSED*. The second lodger came in 0645hrs on a wheelchair, VERY WELL, ALERT, CHEERFUL......... *MORE PISSED*
I hate to take conversion case especially at that timing whereby everyone is rushing to go home. Asked the staff nurse about the patient, everything she dont know!
Staff nurse: "Dont know...", "my colleague said...", "I was not there I dont know...", "I just saw this order..."
Me: (WHAT THE #$%^&&^#!) Is she your patient or you helping your colleague to send?
Staff nurse: Its my patient but I was not there just now so I dont know what happened...
Me: (THEN WHERE WERE YOU???!!! you dont know the patient I know uh?????!?!?!?!?) Ok what about the patient that you know, pass to me.
Staff nurse: Ehhhh she dont remember where she is staying, she only have a passport with her, her property left in the hotel but she cannot remember which hotel, there is no contact numbers of the family....
Me: (that is not informative at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) OK, so you dont know anything about the patient right??????
Staff nurse:.....errr....
Me: Never mind, U GO BACK, I have nothing to ask
(ARRGGGHGGHGHGHHHHHH) I supposed this second lodger can also be transfer out of the ICU.
Fortunately these two cases came only early in the morning, we were able to go for our breaks and finished our routines on time. I left the ward at 0800hrs.
